Numerous ways have been investigated and a couple of them are: Tidal Power, Solar Windows, Nuclear Waste, Flying Wind Farms, and Nuclear combination. In my examination I have seen a portion of these sources as more useful than others. In any case, they all contain the possibility to be huge scaled and placed into impact in the event that not sooner rather than later, at that point in the far off future. A not many that I needed to enter in on is: Tidal Power, Solar Windows, and Flying Wind Farms. For what reason is it important for us to investigate elective sources? Well it is on the grounds that in our present circumstance we are contaminating our surroundings with unsafe substances that can have enduring effects. Not exclusively does these substances influence the human life yet additionally the natural life. That is just a single part of need in our reality. Another viewpoint would be in underdeveloped nations. Modest and effective approaches to bridle influence will bring huge numbers of these nations out of neediness and into riches, profiting every one of us. Flowing force is the way toward bridling the vitality from waves in the ocean/sea. This thought was at one point profoundly searched out for. Be that as it may, as wind turbines began to come into the image this thought was set aside and dismissed for a couple of years. As of late this thought has been getting more consideration and has been reemerging as an architect with the flying corps has made an approach to outfit hypothetically 99% of its vitality (rather than the half it was getting a couple of years back). In past undertakings drag was the fundamental component used to catch the vitality. The new technique from the flying corps engineer utilizes lift rather than drag which gave him higher outcomes at long last. I can firmly observe this wellspring of vitality having a major impact in driving our homes all day every day. Sun powered Windows is a more elevated level of sunlight based boards. An ongoing advancement in quantum speck sun based innovation empowers sun oriented boards to go about as straightforward windows. At the point when this innovation opens up to people in general, each windowâ in each metropolitan structure (exceptionally proficient) to each family can be prepared to control itself. In the Past four years itself the US has expanded its sunlight based limit by 500% in observing its potential for a road in clean vitality source. So this is one more source that I emphatically accept and trust will affect our condition. Flying Wind Farms contained Buoyant Air Turbines (BAT) is an intriguing point. It includes a dirigible and a breeze turbine combined to get into higher heights (1000-2000 ft) to get more grounded and increasingly steady breezes. Not exclusively is the vitality bridled yet in addition this dirigible will likewise go about as a twofold to give Wi-Fi in a bigger scope. It is foreordained that the whole pinnacle based breeze homesteads will be supplanted by BAT. These Bat gadgets are fit for withdrawing and reaching out in elevation as it detects the breeze pressure getting excessively solid or excessively frail. The breeze turbines were at first thought to be a lie however now have overwhelmed the business. In saying that I do see a future for this development. In any case, I don't see it being practiced sooner rather than later. In general my comprehension is that there are numerous approaches to saddle sustainable power source, in any case, some will be more effective than the others. In the short rundown that I introduced I see the Tidal force venture having the best ability to be found soon. It is likewise one of the most proficient types of gathering vitality as it can gather up to 99% of the flowing vitality. This will be incredible for an enormous scope like controlling whole urban areas. In any case, for a normal purchaser hoping to control their homes then I would guide them toward the Solar Windows when they show up in the market, since they give a vitality source without giving up intrigue of the home. As ordinary sun powered boards will in general be cumbersome and peculiar looking sitting on the highest point of the rooftops. As researchers and specialists search for elective vitality sources lets offer our help by just tolerating the way that there is a requirement for all these elective vitalit y sources. He turns into a shoulder for Holly to incline toward in light of the fact that he is the one individual among her companions who didnââ¬â¢t know Gerry so thereââ¬â¢s no explanation behind him to proceed with caution or tread lightly when his name comes up, which she finds reviving. Daniel is sufficiently valiant to express his real thoughts, and I imagine that is useful to Holly in managing her misfortune. With Gerryââ¬â¢s words as her guide, Holly sets out on an excursion of rediscovery in a tale about marriage, fellowship and how an adoration so solid can transform the conclusion of death into a fresh start forever. The undertakings extend was extraordinary, from finding another line of work to singing karaoke before a club crowd. Comparing the Theme of Nature with Works from Dicknson Whitman and Emerson Ralph Waldo Emerson once stated that ââ¬Å"the first in time and the first in importance of the influences upon the mind is that of nature.â⬠Nature in all its forms parallels with life, death, and the soul. Whether the sunshines or the rain falls, whether a flower blooms or willows, nature will always recreate itself and remain a mystery to mankind. To become one with nature, one must explore oneself and know that the simplicity found in it is both divine and perfect. The theme of nature plays a mayor role throughout Whitman, Dickinson, and Emersonââ¬â¢s writings. Each poet conveys his or her view of nature in a unique and symbolic way by searching for theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦/ Itââ¬â¢s laws are the laws of his own mind.â⬠(Pg.48). By stating this, he stresses that each man is different and far apart from each other. Emerson uses nature as a means of escape and power. He wants us to ââ¬Å"look at the world with new eyesâ⬠(Nature, Pg.42) and understand that something as simple as a grain of sand, is beautiful in its own way. Once we can understand this concept of pure existence, than we will know what it is like to be an individual. Whitman also discuses nature through discovering oneââ¬â¢s self, but unlike Emerson, he feels that we as individuals should embrace all society that surrounds us. Whitman sees all men as contributing to the greatness of each other. He views mankind and nature as intertwining in the circle of life and death. In his poem, ââ¬Å"Song of Myselfâ⬠, Whitman states that ââ¬Å" a child said What is the grass? Fetching it to me with full/handsâ⬠(Pg.27) By using a metaphor, such as the bundle of grass, Whitman is able to explain that although each strand of grass is different, they all grow the same way and when put together they are united as one. When discussing nature in the form of death, Dickinson portrays it as a relief, salvation, and an escape to a better place. She views death as being a good and positive thing. In her poem Death and Life, she brilliantly compares the death of a flower, to the death of a human. She states that ââ¬Å" Apparently with no surprise/to any happy flower, /The frost beheads it at its Kaysen Daleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11255237439728147858noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2874989405845623791.post-82709741914652837192020-05-05T19:32:00.001-07:002020-05-05T19:32:22.783-07:00Technology Transfer and Controlling Enterprise Resources Questions: 1. What would be the most appropriate technologies you would recommend to the owners that manage multiple sites or integrate supply chains?2.How might this network coordinate their technology transfer to not only provide the most reliable information, but also provide proper control through the enterprise?3.How might your recommendations be supported through web technologies? In presenting your recommendations, how might you explain the importance of obtaining relevant data through the enterprise system to the owners of the food retailer? Answers: Introduction Understanding various types of supply chains across different industries is of great importance for ensuring the effective management of the various resources available within the enterprise. As supply chains get complex, the reliance on technology to control and manage the resources as well as integrating them efficiently also increases significantly. 1. Customers and their outlooks are changing dynamically. This change calls for appropriate changes in outlook and ideology by top management, coupled with the adoption of appropriate and relevant technologies (Ghilic-Micu, Mircea, Nisioiu, Silvestru, Stoica, 2010). In the age of the internet and cloud computing most of the technologies are dependent on the internet. This includes technology for management of multiple sites as well as integration of supply chains. The integration of supply chains would be easily managed using software related to inventory management. This would help in automation of several processes as well as ensure that information regarding deliveries and orders are easily tracked. This process would further aid in accurately forecasting demand for and supply of the commodity, thus ensuring suitable inventory levels (Kristianto, Ajmal, Addo Tenkorang, Hussain, 2012). This simple process would be a key component to ensure that fast moving commodities are availab le in suitable quantity and techniques like Just-In-Time management are utilized to the maximum while reducing the requirements for warehouse space. Using advanced inventory management techniques and ERP also ensures a significant decrease in manual errors as well as costs incurred as part of administration or inventory storage (Raki, 2014). Transparency in operations is a significant help in enhancing the customer experience through speedy and timely delivery of commodities. Automated systems in inventory management include the integration of accounting along with inventory, thus doing away with duplication of data and resulting redundancy (Sundtoft Hald Mouritsen, 2013). One such technology is the RFID (radio frequency identification) that is being increasingly used by many organizations to track products using sensors. The tracking process works throughout the supply chain across multiple sites and helps ensure that bottlenecks within the system are minimized. 2. As is commonly seen in all emerging technologies, there exists considerable confusion as well as misleading information with regards to RFID as well. RFID is being consistently used for all processes during the entire product lifecycle. While each process is distinct, the core values of the technology remain the same. In logistics, for instance, RFID used at automated toll collection points helps track the movement of goods across various locations. On the other hand, the same technology used in-house tracks the movement of raw materials being supplied to its use in various processes as well as the final products. Thus, RFID helps in controlling inventory levels, modulating purchases and ensuring availability of final product. The considerable improvement in efficiencies and the transparency in tracking the commodities helps minimize bottlenecks as well as improve the response of supply chains, thereby ensuring easy availability of reliable information as well as providing adequat e control of the resources of the enterprise (Sabbaghi Vaidyanathan, 2008). 3. Balancing inventory cost and profits are part of cost efficiency in inventory management. Inventory carrying cost is a major contributor to inventory cost and includes storage cost, taxes and insurance as well as cost of capital invested in inventory (Grant, 2011). The integration of RIFD with cloud computing has been instrumental in ensuring that web technologies are capable of supporting RIFD. In the case of food retailers, which tend to have a lower shelf life, the use of this technology, helps ensure that wastage from food items past their expiry date are easily overcome. The inventory carrying cost is also significantly reduced (Adebanjo Michaelides, 2010). Conclusion The reduction of bottlenecks in the various business processes in the organization is essential for ensuring cost efficiency and profits. The use of various technologies like ERP systems and RIFD are a positive step in the strategic management of the resources in the enterprise as they ensure that the various raw materials, their movement and the various processes they are involved in are all tracked and monitored. There have been escalating costs spent on the war against drugs and countless dollars spent on rehabilitation, but the problem still exists. Not only has the drug problem increased but drug related problems are on the rise. Drug abuse is a killer in our country. Some are born addicts(crack babies), while others become users. The result of drug abuse is thousands of addicts in denial. The good news is the United States had 25,618 total arrests and 81,762 drug seizures due to drugs in 1989 alone, but the bad news is the numbers of prisoners have increased by 70 percent, which will cost about $30 million dollars. Despite common wisdom, the U.S isn't experiencing a drug related crime wave. Government surveys show between 1980 - 1987 burglary rates fell 27 percent, robbery 21 percent and murders 13 percent, but with new drugs on the market these numbers are up. One contraversial solution is the proposal of legalizing drugs. Although people feel that legalizing drugs would lessen crime, drugs should remain illegal in the U.S because there would be an increase of drug abuse and a rapid increase of diseases such as AIDS.Many believe that legalizing drugs would lessen crime. They point out that the legalization of drugs would deter future criminal acts. They also emphasize and contrast Prohibition. When the public realized that Prohibition could not be enforced the law was repealed. From this, one may infer the same of legalizing drugs. Legalizing alcohol didn't increase alcoholism, so why would drugs increase drug abuse? However, drugs should not be legalized because there would be an increase in drug abuse due to its availability. Once legalized, drugs would become cheaper and more accessible to people who previously had not tried drugs, because of the high price or the legal risk. Drug abuse would skyrocket! Addicts who tend to stop, not by choice, but because the drugs aren't accessible would now feed the addiction if drugs were made legal. These drug addicts would not be forced to kick the habit due to the availability of the drug they would partake eagerly. The temptation to use drugs would increase when advertisements for cocaine, heroin and marijuana are displayed on television. Instead of money used by employed addicts, you will see welfare funds used to purchase drugs. If welfare funds were being misused, this would cause a major problem in the economy. Drugs must not be legalized. It puts our country at a terrible risk.Health officials have shown that the legalization of drugs would cause a rapid increase of diseases such as AIDS. AIDS poses a growing threat to addicts, and thus to society as a whole. The virus that causes AIDS is growing, due to drug addicts who share needles and syringes. The sharing of such needles by intravenous drug users helps increase the spread of AIDS. "Infection among IV drug abusers is continuing to occur at a very steady rate," warn Richard E. Chaisson director of the AIDS service at John Hopkins University. In the U.S gay men still make up the primary risk group, although 750,000 to 1 million drug addicts are believed to be at risk to AIDS nationally. The problem here is the sharing of needles, which is causing the spread of AIDS. IV drug abusers are killing our nation at an amazingly fast speed. AIDS which surfaced in the 80's is now on the rise and even more deadly to IV drug users. The sharing of needles must be stopped. Drugs should not be legalized.Although people feel that legalizing drugs would lessen crime, drugs should remain illegal in the U.S because there would be an increase of drug abuse and a rapid increase of diseases such as AIDS. The United States can not afford this problem. It has become a world power by strengthening its people not by killing them. Drug abuse has gotten worse, with its effects on crack babies, drug addicts, and the I.V user. There must be education for the survival of this nation, not legalization. Itââ¬â¢s obvious that the world is changing pretty rapidly, with advances in technology and consumer demands having a tremendous impact on the workplace across all industries. Hereââ¬â¢s an example- itââ¬â¢s fair to say that the traditional routine of commuting to work Monday through Friday and punching a clock from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. is disappearing; in many professional sectors it has already gone the way of the dinosaur and in others itââ¬â¢s quickly evaporating, leaving many of us to wonder whatââ¬â¢s next. A recent article on Ladders made some interesting predictions regarding workplace changes that could possibly be in store for us in 2018. If youââ¬â¢re wondering about what might be lying ahead for you at your current job or if the coming year might be a good time to make a career change, then keep reading!More flexible work ar rangementsIf thereââ¬â¢s one thing that technological advances in recent years have changed itââ¬â¢s the ability to work from absolutely anywhere- these days, you can even get work done while waiting on line at the grocery store. More people are being more productive than ever before on their laptops, tablets, and smartphones and getting work done at home, while running errands or waiting for appointments, or wherever else they have pockets of spare time (and Internet access).Progressive employers have already capitalized on this trend by allowing their employees to take advantage of opportunities to work remotely. This can be a real win-win situation- employees get to save on the time, hassle, and expense of having to commute back and forth from work every day, and employers get to save money on things like office supplies and have a happier staff (and potentially greater employee retention from the added perk). Count on this telecommuting trend to continue through 2018 and b eyond.Decreasing full-time positionsModern innovations in the workplace have ushered in a new way of thinking about employee productivity. Simply put, companies are discovering creative ways to do more with less and to leverage new technology to empower fewer employees to get more work done. As a result, companies are reimagining what they need from a dedicated staff and are shifting away from hiring full-time employees and towards hiring part-time, freelance, and contract employees as needed for work projects- for better or for worse. This represents a real cost-savings for the average company, and in an economy in which domestic growth is sluggish at best, itââ¬â¢s a compelling option that less and less companies will shy away from in 2018.The rise of employee engagementAs companies learn to do more with less and rely on a smaller, more valuable core group of employees to drive productivity, expect to see a greater focus on making sure that these employees are fully engaged and happy. Why is this a growing trend? Employee turnover with leaner staffs can represent a significant loss of time, money, and institutional knowledge, so doing whatever it takes to keep folks happy- and in place- will become more strategically important. This can take lots of different forms- from added incentives and perks on the job to more flexibility regarding work-life balance and life outside of work.Greater cultural diversity and awarenessItââ¬â¢s obvious that most progressive societies are moving towards a greater understanding, awareness, and appreciation of cultural diversity, and this is trickling down into the modern workplace. In 2018, expect to see most companies enhancing their efforts to ensure that their workplaces reflect the rich diversity that exists in our increasingly globalized world. Furthermore, according to Amy Cooper Hakim, Ph.D. and industrial-organizational psychologist, ââ¬Å"more companies will hold training classes (both virtually and in-person) to ensure that all members of an organization treat others with respect. This respect is vital for interactions with employees, employers, stakeholders, and clients.â⬠There you have it- some workplace predictions for the coming year. Although you can expect to see some variation across industries and companies, you can count on these trends continuing in the workplace in general through 2018 and beyond. "Actual [Social Security] benefits may vary depending on actual work history and income" (Social Security Income Calculator, 2010, p. 1). This is as it should be; obviously someone who worked all their lives is not going to receive the same amount of Social Security as someone who never worked a day in their life or never paid into the system. If one person had diabetes and another person had heart failure, but the doctor said, "Well, this person has diabetes so I'm going to prescribe diabetes medication for everyone," then obviously the person who had heart failure would not be properly treated. 3. Under the current administration, which theory provides the most insight in terms of effective policy implementation Why Based on these theories, how do we know policy implementation is occurring The theory that most effectively provides insight into effective policy implementation is policy which does not "lack theoretical underpinning" (Hargrove, 1981, p. 1). Obama's theoretical underpinning was change. This is what he so effectively managed to focus on during his campaign. It is no surprise that his determination is paying off with regard to effecting social change. 4. In your opinion, on which should a leadership evaluation focus, efficiency or effectiveness Why Leadership should always focus on effectiveness. Efficiency may be slow, but if whatever one does is effective, the means or efficiency needed to get to the effective end, effectively, ceases to matter as much. Therefore, one should focus on the results, not how the results came about. REFERENCES Hargrove, E.C. (1981). The search for implementation theory. For the successful management of complex interactions, agility is most certainly needed. The case study presented clearly shows a plethora of complex interactions emerging from the mere fact of the behind-the-scenes deception and lack of communications alone. "In most feedback systems, small deviations in a parameter's value from its design value will not cause a problem in the normal operations of the system, provided these parameters are inside the control loop. If the process parameters vary widely because of environmental changes, then the control system will exhibit unsatisfactory behaviors...To be called adaptive, self-organizing features must exist" (Alleman, "Herding Cats"). We might ask ourselves what are these features that must exist We can name them in a list of three. "Identification of the dynamic characteristics of the process. Decision making based on the identification of the process." And "modification or actuation based on the decisions made" (Alleman, "Herding Cat s"). In our notes on the project, we clearly see that Anderson is never able to get a handle on making leadership decisions based upon his obvious need to modify what he is doing. Does he understand the dynamics of management of the Blue Spider Program development Clearly not. He tries to take on too much on his own most of the times (researching instead of managing), while at other times there is lack of given information, administrative mistakes. For a PM to really know how to manage what he is doing would require a solid foundation in theory that is barely available in our present... The Blue Spider Program and the reasons for its failure The theory of management comprises viewing PM as having "a strong causal connection between the actions of management and outcomes of the organization"; assuming "that planned tasks can be executed by a notification of the start of the task to the executor"; and maintaining that there is "a standard of performance; performance is measured at the output; the possible variance between the standard and the measured value is used for correcting the process so that the standard can be reached" (Koskela & Howell). Anderson did not understand the connection between himself and the projectââ¬â¢s success or failure. Performance standards were notoriously lacking. These and the aforementioned matters would have to be corrected to ensure future success. These people are brought up in this world with high standards and at some point they just canââ¬â¢t take it. Theyââ¬â¢re brought up with high expectations on them so when they canââ¬â¢t be met they find a way to cope. They turn to things, such as drug abuse, to make it through their situations. Others are just anti-social so they donââ¬â¢t know another way out but to turn to something that will accept them. Family has a major effect on what theyââ¬â¢ll do. If they expect them how they are flaws and all theyââ¬â¢re more likely to stay away from criminal behavior. But if they expect nothing but perfection and then are shunned on for not meeting those standards, they find a way to cope. They turn to things that you wouldnââ¬â¢t expect them to do. Theyââ¬â¢re brought up to high expectations. Then thereââ¬â¢s people who arenââ¬â¢t brought up in a ââ¬Å"good familyâ⬠and donââ¬â¢t turn to the criminal behavior. These people are doing it for themselves. They saw what it was like to come from a ââ¬Å"poor familyâ⬠and donââ¬â¢t want to be that way the rest of their lives. They know what itââ¬â¢s like to live without the things they need and they want better for their future. They arenââ¬â¢t held to meet high expectations so any type of accomplishment they met is highly looked upon. But then there is the person who was brought up in a ââ¬Å"good familyâ⬠and isnââ¬â¢t looked upon as doing something so amazing. They just break at some point. But the ones who donââ¬â¢t come from a ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠family are given praise. People that come from a ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠family have more pressure on them to be a better person. They have high family values to meet. In Agnewââ¬â¢s Sources of Strain and Their Consequences it states one of the sources of strain is failure to achieve goals and one of the negative affective states could be anger or frustration. So then they turn to drug abuse or violence. But in some cases itââ¬â¢s not the family who has the effect on them. Because in the social learning theory it states that, people act aggressively because, as children, they modeled after the violent acts of adults. So when people are brought up in this world with those role models they try to be just like them. So a personââ¬â¢s acts arenââ¬â¢t only affected by their family. But their family does have a great deal on how theyââ¬â¢ll be in the future. Though it is more likely for people that come from a disadvantaged family to turn to crime, there are always exceptions to everything. People can come from a good family and still turn to crime. They find a way to be individual, to stand out from the rest of the family. They want to have their own individuality and be paid attention to and if crime is the only way they are seen, the crime is what they will turn to. As for people who come from a poor family they may want to be able to give back to their family what they couldnââ¬â¢t be given. They strive to be different and stand out from the rest of their family. They too are looking for individuality. The first sign is the scar, the second sign is the bow and the third sign is the bed. "Note the importance of signs in the works of Homer, such as the sign of the burning ship in the Iliad. Then there is a long flashback telling how Odysseus got the scar and the significance of it. The scar is symbolically important, for it defines who he is -- and what he is. The scar-flashback starts with the naming of Odysseus by his grandfather Autolykos, who was the world's greatest thief. There Autolykus says, since he has caused pain to people all over the world (the Greek verb odyussai) the boy will be called Odysseus. Odysseus is one who both gives pain and also suffers it. Then we get the long description of the hunt in which Odysseus gets the scar. This is a type of male initiation ritual, where the men of the family or tribe take the young man on an animal hunt so he can prove himself in the company of men. Such rituals often involve scarring or ritual mutilation, and here Odysseus achieves notable deeds by killing the fierce boar (giving pain) but also receiving pain and a scar as token of his accomplishments"(chss.montclair.edu/classics/ODYNOTES19TO24.HTML). "IN the folk-tale told about the husband who comes home after years of absence, so changed by time and Fortune's hard usage that he must adduce proof after proof of his identity before his wife will admit his claim, the first Sign to be exhibited is the scar. This he reveals first to an aged dame, his old nurse, perhaps the only woman then alive in the world who was familiar with its appearance and history. For naturally the first token must not be of a kind so intimate and convincing as to make the wife's unreadiness to respond to it appear capricious and unreasonable. To this extent Homer has adopted the ancient tale"(questia.com/PM.qst?a=o&d=5372374). "The book ends with another sign of the great sympathy that exists between the two, as Penelope admits she could gladly spend all night talking with Odysseus. The beggar has accomplished his mission of winning her confidence and now can see the means by which he might kill the suitors -- the bow" (chss. Kaysen Daleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11255237439728147858noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2874989405845623791.post-46908635584573886542020-01-13T04:49:00.001-08:002020-01-13T04:49:03.708-08:00Philip Roth- writer of Defender of the Faith EssayPhilip Milton Roth was born on March 19, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey to a lower class middle-class Jewish Family novels and made it the scenes there. There are certain stories that he wrote which talks about his family members and his own life as well. His father was an insurance of Austro-Hungarian stock. When he wrote Patrimony in 1991, he wrote this for his dad who is still in his early eighties but in that particular story he portrayed his father as an eighty-six year old who suffered from a brain tumor. He loves his family so much. And that particular novel won the National critics Circle award in 1992.(Bloom, 2003) Experience is the best teacher and those experiences should be put into words to produce one magnificent work that will mirror the past. An excerpt from one of his book says ââ¬Å"Between first discovering the Newark Bears and the Brooklyn Dodgers at seven or eight and first looking into Conradââ¬â¢s Lord Jim at age eighteen, I had done some growing up. I am only saying that my discovery of literature, and fiction particularly, and the ââ¬Ëlove affairââ¬â¢ ââ¬â to some degree hopeless, but still earnest ââ¬â that has ensued, derives in part from this childhood infatuation with baseball. Or, more accurately perhaps, baseball ââ¬â with its lore and legends, its cultural power, its seasonal associations, its native authenticity, its simple rules and transparent strategies, its longueurs and thrills, its spaciousness, its suspensefulness, its heroics, its nuances, its lingo, its ââ¬Ëcharactersââ¬â¢, its peculiarly hypnotic tedium, its mythic transformation of the immediate ââ¬â was the literature of my boyhood.â⬠(Roth in ââ¬ËMy Baseball Yearsââ¬â¢, from Reading Myself and Others, 1975) Here we can say that the place he grew up and the experiences made him what he really is and clearly shows the readers what kind of childhood he has. He attended Rutgers university from 1950-51 then transferred to Bucknell university where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude with a major in English in 1954. Then he studied at the University of Chicago where he receives his M.A. in English then in 1955 he joined the army but sooner discharged because of a back injury. He then continues his study at Chicago and worked there from 1955 to 1957 as an English teacher. He then dropped out from the Ph.D. program in 1959 and started to write film reviews for the New Republic. Also in that year Goodbye Columbus won the National Book Award and was made into film here it was based on a family of a middle-class Jewish which clearly shows the authorââ¬â¢s technique that is experience based and observations about the Jewish way of living Roth is fascinated by the idea of Jews behaving badly, but for him the physical deviance is sexual. He undermines the icon of the mensch, the Jewish good-boy (buzzle.com). Portnoyââ¬â¢s complaint is also his work which became the number one best seller in 1969 and made a turning point in his career. Here Portnoyââ¬â¢s approach to hedonistic Western culture is ironic. This work of Roth for most readers finds it offensive because of the sex scenes and the presentation of Jewish Mother was criticized. (Bloom, 2003) Jewishness is Rothââ¬â¢s major territory in examining American culture. Roth has more ironic and characterized as ââ¬Å"less lovingâ⬠views on Jewsââ¬â¢ life. The readers can identify the writer with the obsession on fictional characters. In his works he increasingly wrestled problems of identity. Sometimes, he views his own life as part of his fiction. In his work The Plot against America (2004) an alternate history in which the famous pilot Charles Lindberg is the 33rd president of the Fascist U.S Philip Roth is one of the characters suffering from his Jewish Background. When he experienced separation from his wife whom he got married in 1990 distinguished actress Claire Bloom, their relationship wayback 1970 was ended in 1996 and made his wife publish a book for him entitled Leaving a Dollââ¬â¢s House. We can see here that even his wife is using experience as a good source of thoughts and ideas in writing a book to clearly express oneââ¬â¢s emotion and point of views.(Bloom 2003) In his work Defender of the Faith (1959) the social and critical context shows us the passion of Philip Roth for his works. Here Roth shows us two stories at the same time, first is the story of Marxââ¬â¢s recovery from war experiences and the other is his conflict with Grossbart. The author explores the struggle one man goes through in order to discover which value outweigh others. Marx is in a dilemma which should be first, a good sergeant, a good Jew or a good human being. As the story progresses, Roth allows us glimpses into Marxââ¬â¢s recovery: the parade ground at dusk evokes childhood memories that reach deep into his heart to touch him; later, he begins to send for law school catalogs and to write old girlfriends. (ftp.ccccd.edu) From here we can see points of the author about the conflict between Marx and Grossbart. Although they are both Jews, Grossbart is trying to get a special consideration and privilege. What is difficult for Marx is that Grossbart raises questions that the army at that time never considers. Like why is it that Jews donââ¬â¢t go worship on their Sabbath. Then Marx just realizes that Grossbart is not really a serious Jew. He just wants to manipulate the system which on the later part made Marx fight for his own sake. We can see that this work of Roth is full of complex irony. Sgt. Marx is the defender of faith which in fact should suggest a staunch religious champion, but as far as Marxs role in the story he does it so against his will and against his intention but what made him motivated is to have an equal and fair treatment to all his men and not to be partial to Jews.where unwillingly he became defender of faith to Grossbart. At the end of the story, however, when Marx has Grossbartââ¬â¢s orders changed to the Pacific, the irony is that he becomes most truly a defender of his faith when he seems to be turning against it. ââ¬Å"You call this watching out for me what you did?â⬠asks Grossbart. ââ¬Å"No,â⬠answers Marx. ââ¬Å"For all of us.â⬠The cause of the whole Jewish faith is set back when Jews like Grossbart get special favors for themselves, for other people will mistakenly attribute Grossbartââ¬â¢s objectionable qualities to the Jewish people as a whole. (Itââ¬â¢s called ââ¬Å"stereotyping.â⬠) Thus Marx is unwillingly a ââ¬Å"defender of the faithâ⬠when he helps his fellow Jew, yet he becomes truly a defender of the faith when he turns against him (ftp.ccccd.edu). Roth justifies his social context about Jews in this story and made many people realize what the term ââ¬Å"Defender of the faithâ⬠really means. Some of the common applications of sentiment analysis are, understanding the voice of the customer, voice of the market, the voice of the employee, brand management, financial markets, politics and government intelligence. The objective of the sentiment analysis in the case of Suite Spot would be to increase customer satisfaction based on the sentiment analysis of the customer review data and other available data about the customer and reservation, available from Kayak. This is where a sentiment analysis can offer much more value when compared to a traditional analysis on the customer review data. The key to this is the availability of real-time data about the hotel from customers. In a connected world where information is continuously flowing in the form of tweets, Facebook, and other social media posts, getting real-time sentiment analysis data and acting on the data would help create a competitive advantage for the Suite Spot chain of hotels. â⬠¢ First we have to keep track of all the customers who are currently staying in a Suite Spot hotel. The migration tool does a lot of the work, especially with syntax, but nowhere near all of it. You must work on your VB6 code before you try to load it in VB.Net. Should You Upgrade the Code? Some types of programs are best left in VB6. If your projects use WebClasses, DHTML pages, and UserControls, the migration to VB.NET may not go smoothly. That isnââ¬â¢t to say you shouldnââ¬â¢t try. The migration wizard will list any critical issues, and you can go back and fix them. Preparing Your VB6 Code for Migration Remove any dead code that your program doesnââ¬â¢t use and join any duplicated code to reduce the code more. You can do this manually if you are patient or your program isnââ¬â¢t lengthy, or you can use a source code analyzer program to locate the duplicated or unused code. Fix Any Data Declarations If you used undeclared variables in your program, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Add proper type declarations to every Dim statement and add Option Explicit statements. This will smooth the import process. Donââ¬â¢t worry, if you miss any, youââ¬â¢ll find out later. VB.NET Wizard Goes to Work Open your program in VB.NET and wait while the migration tool does its work. Expect to receive a lengthy report listing all the upgrade issuesââ¬âthe ones the wizard fixed and the ones it didnââ¬â¢t. There will also be comments in the code near spots that need extra work. Try to Compile Donââ¬â¢t even hope for your code to compile the first time through. It wonââ¬â¢t, but youââ¬â¢ll receive a long list of compile errors that you can go back and fix. Work on Your Code Using the reports, return to your code and fix the critical issues. When youââ¬â¢ve done them all, load the code into VB.NET again. You may receive another list of critical issues to fix, but eventually, it will make it through the wizard and the compiler. Youââ¬â¢re not done yet. Look for comments the migration tool left in your code and do whatever the comments say. Now, run and test your program in VB.NET. Answer: Introduction ISO 50001 is developed by International Organization for Standardization for managing of the energy requirements. The standard specifically reveals the desired requirements for the establishment, implementation, maintenance and improving the different energy management systems (Monaghan, 2014). The primary purpose is to enable the organizations for following a systematic approach in order to achieve continual improvement of the energy performances. This energy performance includes the energy efficiency, energy use, energy consumption and energy security. The standard helps in reducing the use of the energy, the cost price of the energy use and the emission of the greenhouse gasses. Main context ISO 50001 was basically released in June 2011 by ISO and is supposed to be suitable for any firm o different size, sector or the geographical location. This particular system is modeled after the launch of the EMS that is the system for the environmental management (Wongsapai, 2016). There are several reasons to use this such as for improving the energy-related performance and the energy efficiency continuously as to reduce the energy reduction opportunities. The use of this particular systematic approach generally helps different firms for establishing systems as well as the processes. The energy consumption and the effective use of the energy resources is a matter of concern and the organization I engaged in reducing the energy use possibilities. The consistency in the energy management initiatives helps the organizations to realize the untapped energy potential efficiency (Forbes and Walker, 2016). Reduction in the cost price of the energy use will help in increasing the effective ness of the performance of the different organizations concerned. ISO 50001 has formulated a major leap raising the bar urging the organizations to explain that they have significantly improved their overall energy performances. It is a matter of fact that there are no specifically mentioned for the targets- an organization needs to choose its own target and then it must develop an action plan in order to achieve the concerned action plan. In order to bring out the desired benefits for the concerned organization, the development of the action plan or following a systematic approach is supposed to be more important. There are different organizations of different sizes and types for which the reduction of the energy use is the primary aim (Andrade et al., 2015). Therefore, there needs to be significant use of the desired approach in order to reduce this energy consumption and to evaluate the effectiveness of the entire firm concerned. There are seven of the major components of ISO 5001: General requirements Managing the responsibilities Energy policy Energy action plan Implementation and operation Performance audits Management review ISO 5001 provides the desired framework of different requirements in order to help the firms: Development of policy for effective and efficient use of energy Fixed targets along with objectives to meet the policy Using of data in order to understand the use of energy consumption in a better way Measuring the results Reviewing the effectiveness of the policy Continually improving the use and managing of the energy References Andrade, J.C.S., and de Oliveira, J.A.P., 2015. I did not feel this 3-hours-movie long. Director Diaz-Abaya described Rizal not only from outside but from his inner side. The plot was very complicated, but still not difficult to follow. Since I first knew of Rizal in a book of Asian history, I have had a question. Why is Rizal the National Hero, not Aginard, nor Bonifacio? Rizal did little except writing two novels. Why? Watching the movie, I thought I had an answer. Historically, his books and his death triggered the revolution activities. But true reason is, I suppose, that Rizal had a universal view on humanity and freedom. I was impressed by the following two lines: 1) In a Madrid pub, he says Unless we first learn self-respect, we will not be respected by any other peoples. 2) After having death sentence, his barrister says he is ashamed as a Spanish. Rizal says, No, we are the same human beings. We will write a custom essay sample on Rizals Life or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He was not a perfect man, nor his ideas. But he left something everlasting, that Filipinos can be proud of. The next question I had was: His death triggered the revolution activities. Was it beyond his will, or did he want it to happen? The night before execution, the ghost of Simoun came out in his room, and urged him to rewrite the story. At last Rizal says Let me have a rest. To know who I am. Then he rewrites the story so that the lamp explodes to kill many suppressors. So, what Abaya wants to say? Anyway, it is a very good film. It is the first Philippine film put on a Japanese screen except kinds of film festivals. I hope more Philippine films are shown in Japan, especially Abayas. III. Conclusion Rizal sa Dapitan was good, the choice of characters was also good, but there should be improvements in the script, cinematography and music. I think the highlights of Rizalââ¬â¢s life was not just only when he was in Dapitan, but during the climax of events before his execution. But did you know that some bosses are actually psychopaths? According to an Australian study, 1 out of 5 corporate executives exhibited clinically psychopathic traits. (For reference, the rate of psychopaths, in general, is 1 out of every 100 people.) Whether your difficult boss is psychotically inclined or not, here are 7 strategies you can use to deflate potential bad boss situations. 1. Determine what youââ¬â¢re dealing with.Is your boss just having a bad day, or is he like this all the time? Is she dealing with other factors (pressure from above, employees flaking out, etc.) that are making her be extra hard on you? Or are you being too hard on her? Think about what may be causing the behavior. It might not justify it, or make the behavior any more pleasant to deal with, but everyone has a bad day. Itââ¬â¢s important to consider whether this is truly your bossââ¬â¢s default way of working, or if itââ¬â¢s just a one- off problem.2. Get everything in writing. If your boss is a chaos-producer by asking for something, then claiming later that you were asked for something entirely different, itââ¬â¢s your word against theirs. Write down what you can- for example, if you were given verbal instructions, confirm in a quick email just so everyone has a written record of what was discussed/asked.3. Stop and take a breath. If youââ¬â¢re having a conflict with your boss, jumping right in with a heated reaction could be something youââ¬â¢ll regret later. Take a minute, breathe, and think about your reaction. Again, thinking about the ââ¬Å"whyâ⬠behind your bossââ¬â¢s behavior can also help prevent you from reacting from a place of pure stress.4. Know and avoid the triggers.Does your boss always fly off the handle when someone is late? Be extra mindful of your arrival time. Rant about typos in an email? Proofread twice before you hit ââ¬Å"send.â⬠If thereââ¬â¢s a pattern to Angry B ossââ¬â¢s behavior, itââ¬â¢s definitely in your best interest to know what that pattern is and learn how to counteract those triggers before they happen.5. Use communication strategies. This is a common therapeutic method for improving communication. Use active listening by repeating back what was said, and asking for clarification if necessary. Many conflicts are due to people not feeling listened to or understood, so if your boss thinks youââ¬â¢re not listening, it can escalate a conflict.6. Donââ¬â¢t let it derail you.You have a job to do, and if you let a toxic relationship with your boss affect your work and your behavior, thatââ¬â¢s not going to help you. Try not to take it personally or let it affect the quality of your work. If you find yourself blowing things off out of frustration with your boss, that can make your professional rep suffer.7. Escalate if necessary. If your company has ways to confidentially air your concerns to HR (or a similar employee resourc e) and you feel like things are reaching a breaking point, consider taking your issues to them. If you dread going to work every day because of the misery that awaits you for the next eight hours, thatââ¬â¢s not a situation thatââ¬â¢s good for you or your company- consider finding an internal (and neutral) way to bring up the situation.Weââ¬â¢ve all had a toxic boss at some point in our careers. Sometimes it gets better, and sometimes you just have to move on. Either way, donââ¬â¢t let it ruin your professional life in the meantime. Strecker and G. Persch, 1990, p441-445). The scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) is a solid-state microscope based on the principle of quantum mechanical tunnelling of electrons between a sharp tip and a conducting sample. Surfaces can be studied by allowing the individual atoms to be imaged in real space. By scanning the tip across a sample surface it is possible to image directly the three dimensional structure of a surface down to atomic scale resolutions. Prior to the invention of STM, the only way that surface structures could be deduced was by more indirect methods such as low energy electron diffraction (LEED) or medium-energy ion scattering (MEIS). Technique The tip used in STM is very sharp and ideally terminates into a single atom. The tip is mounted onto a system of piezo electric drives, which provide movement in three dimensions. (http://nanowiz.tripod.com/stmbasic/stmbasic.htm, 14/10/03). The movement is controllable with sub-atomic scale accuracy and can be brought within a few Amstroms of the conducting sample surface. The metallic tip and the conducting substrate are in very close proximity but are not in actual physical contact, ( chem.qmw.ac.uk/surfaces/scc/, 7/10/03). At separations as small as this, the outer electron orbitals of the tip and sample overlap. On the application of a bias voltage between the tip and the surface, electrons are able to tunnel through the vacuum barrier via the quantum mechanical tunnelling effect. The direction of current flow is determined by the polarity of the bias. If the sample is biased negative with respect to the tip, then electrons will flow from the surface to the tip as shown above, whilst if the sample is biased positive with respect to the tip, then electrons will flow from the tip to the surface as shown below. (chem.qmw.ac.uk/surfaces/scc/, 7/10/03). The exponential (in vacuum) decay of the electron wavefunctions means that the tunnelling current is extremely sensitive to the tip-sample separation. This provides a very fine resolution of the surface. Quantum Mechanical Tunnelling The infinite potential walled particle in a box theory does not allow any of the wave function to escape the box as it would have to have more than infinity energy to cross the barrier. Allowing the potential energy well to be a finite number has the effect of making it possible for the wave function of a particle that is trapped in this potential well, to partially escape and thus have a presence outside the confines of the box. The wave function can transverse the potential barrier, although it will decay exponentially through the barrier. Assuming that the wave function does not totally decay away before the end of the barrier, the particle can have a physical presence on the other side of the potential barrier. If the potential barrier is long range, then the wave function will decay away exponentially and tend towards zero. Upon reaching the end of the potential barrier, the particle will have an infinite small wave function and zero presence on the other side of the barrier. This property is known as quantum mechanical tunnelling. (chembio.uoguelph.ca/educmat/chm729/STMpage/stmdet.htm,10/10/03). The quantum mechanical phenomenon creates the high degree of sensitivity necessary for atomic scale imaging of surfaces. The quantum mechanical tunnelling current is highly dependent on the tip-surface distance. The distance between tip and surface is usually of the order of 0.3 nm and the tunnelling voltage V ranges from a few mV up to a few V, depending on the conductivity of the surface. The tunnelling current typically varies between 10 pA and 1 nA, (fys.kuleuven.ac.be/vsm /spm/introduction.html12/10/03). The tunnel current decreases to 1/10 of its initial value for every 0.1 nm increase in gap separation, (Kaiser, W. J. Stroscio, J. A., 1993, p78) The essential aspect of STM is the extreme sensitivity of the tunnelling current to the tip sample separation. It is therefore important to realise that the tunnelling current is a quantum phenomenon. In classical physics the current could not flow across a gap. Modes of Operation Constant height mode In this mode the vertical position of the tip is not changed, equivalent to a slow or disabled feedback. The tunnelling current varies depending on topography and the local surface electronic properties of the sample. The current as a function of lateral position represents the surface image. This mode is only appropriate for atomically flat surfaces. If the surface were not flat, the STM tip would crash. An advantage of constant height mode is that it can be used at high scanning frequencies (up to 10 kHz). (http://instruct1.cit.cornell.edu/courses/ee476/FinalProjects/s2002/sm242/stmdesign.htm, 12/10/03). Constant current mode In the constant-current mode, the current is used as the input to a feedback circuit that moves the scanner together with the tip up and down in the height direction. With an applied potential, the tip is brought close to the sample surface until the tunnelling current set point is detected, at which point the constant-current feedback loop is locked. When the tip moves laterally to a new position, any subtle sample-tip distance variation will lead to the fluctuation of the tunnelling current. Consequently, the feedback circuit will move the tip up and down until the current keeps the set-point value. As a result, the moving tip keeps the constant sample-tip distance, tracing the surface topography. The main advantage of constant current mode is that the tip will not crash into a large cluster of atoms at the surface. Constant current mode can measure irregular surfaces with high precision, but the measurement takes more time, (http://std2.fic.uni.lodz. pl/stm.html, 13/10/03). (http://instruct1.cit.cornell.edu/courses/ee476/FinalProjects/s2002/sm242/stmdesign.htm, 12/10/03). Tip etching The construction of the tip is one of the most crucial aspects of STM. The tip must be approximately one atom thick in order for the STM to be carried out effectively. Surface pictures can appear to be distorted due to the presence of more than one sharp protrusion, (Ouseph, P. J. Gossman, M., 1998, 701-704). Some important characteristics of a tip are * Sharp tips which allow high resolution STM observations * Small resonance area * Thick taper to reduce tip oscillation during STM scans (mme.wsu.edu/~reu/poster2000/Ronald2000/ronald/ppframe.htm, 14/10/03) Multiple tips can be formed when suspended particles are picked up from the etching solution, (NaOH, KCN). Multiple tips often lead to the occurrence of shadow effects and ghost images, (physik.tu-berlin.de/institute/IFFP/daehne/ index.htm?/institute/ IFFP/daehne /forsch/rs-tips.htm, 20/10/03). Conditions The STM can operate in many different kinds of environments. A simple STM can be run in ambient air. However, in order to achieve effective results in Surface Science the STM is run in ultra-high vacuum. Vibration Isolation As the tip is oscillating across a very small area, it is important to isolate vibration. Vibration is kept to a minimum by several methods. Placing the STM on a spring/damping table is one way to cut out vibrations travelling through the floor. The first typical isolation system is the coiled spring suspension with magnetic damping and the second is a stack of metal plates with viton dampers between each pair of steel plates, (Kaiser, W. J., 1993, pp58). The basement level of a building is preferred because there are lower level of vibrations. To stop wave propagating through the air, a foam cover can be placed over the instrument, (mme.wsu.edu/~reu/Matt/Matt.htm, (19/10/03). For a time, this strategy became very effective and contributed to Fordââ¬â¢s success. This strategy of vertical integration however eventually became obsolete as supply chain became complex and competition became stiffer. The introduction of new supply chain and inventory control such as Toyotaââ¬â¢s Just-in-Time rendered vertical integration out of fashion. The recent recessions also exposed the vulnerability of vertical integration to economic and cyclical downturns. Thus, the strategy evolved to horizontal integration which is more appropriate for its global market. Horizontal integration as a strategy involves the acquisition of the production whose products are the same ââ¬â either complementary or competitive (www.theeconomist.com, 2009). The classic example of this strategy is buying competitors who sell the same product. In the case of Ford this is the acquisition of Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Jaguar, Land rover, Volvo and Aston Martin which was sold as an option of the companyââ¬â¢s Kaysen Daleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11255237439728147858noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2874989405845623791.post-72476380245862090662019-11-20T07:14:00.001-08:002019-11-20T07:14:04.196-08:00Production and Cost Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 wordsProduction and Cost - Term Paper Example The article "Production and Cost" talks about the cost minimization and why it enhances the smooth operation of the organization and reduces raw materials wastage. Production should always be based on the best optimal way that emphasizes on customer value maximization. More importantly, proper controls on the production process and insistent of manufacturing only what is deemed necessary significantly reduces the cost of production. Natural resources and labor costs are the major expenses incurred in creating the final product. The optimum ordering levels should be maintained including the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) to enable smooth flow of production process. The natural resources, work in progress, and final goods must be honestly accounted for. Integration of organizational departments plays a pivotal role in minimizing the cost of production. Arguably, there is great need to reduce costs by considering both variable and fixed costs. Variable expenses can always be regulated to minimize the resulting cost of production. These are costs that increase as the output goes up and decreases when output reduces. Variable costs may comprise of natural resources and direct labor costs. They include costs such as electricity and overtime wages paid to workers involved in the direct production of goods. A company may, therefore, regulate its variable cost to minimize the cost of production. Fixed costs are exogenous hence unconnected with the output. The total fixed cost always remains independent for a long time. Goyard associates with the aristocrats and elite in society who have more money to spend and do less to continue earning a decent living. This defies the Maslow pyramid in which luxury brands to the wealthy has evolved into a necessity (King 2009, pp. 3). For instance, a high number of those placing orders in Goyard stores such as Barneys New York tend to be celebrities in which the current world and entertainment industry view them as the trendsetters for fashion. Most of these orders are hand-made from the workshops in France making the orders to be as per a clientsââ¬â¢ specification. On the other hand, Goyard also manufactures wallets, totes, and handbags that target men, women, that are luxury conscious because of the strictness attached to the making of the products. The trunks also attract specification applications in which a trun k maker may design one by working with the specifications given to them for particular trunks meaning that they tend to be different from each other. Goyard has for a long time made use of the serial number and initial placement of the trunks designs, which makes it easy to trace the specific customer orders. Jean Michal Signoles came up with this tracking system when he took up operations at the helm of Goyard where the trunk makers register the serial numbers in the manufacturing resister that is helpful when there is the need to repair the sold goods. As per the company records, the company has at least twenty trunk makers working in Goyard workshops that specialize in sided luggage and made-to-order... Goyard Company began operations in 1792 as a family business and maintained its engagement with its customer base to date. The companyââ¬â¢s range of products includes trunks, pet accessories, and an assortment of other leather products while its main client base consists of royalty and celebrities p.Goyard products are luxury brands meaning that the production of its products for sale may be through the placement of orders and not on shop sales. Under the guidance of Morel Maison, Goyard mainly dealt in the production of leather trunks for the Duchess of Berry hence making his products to serve royalty. y.The only criteria that Goyard customers use in making purchase is via email and not on any other avenue. Over the years, many have reported cases of making purchases of fake Goyard products hence losing a lot of money through unscrupulous businesspersons. Unlike other businesses that make sales online through trading websites, Goyard does its online sales in a discrete manner an d allows registered customers to make inquiries regarding the products that they may have for sale. Other details communicated through this medium are the shipping details and the cost for the products hence making any other source of information delivery channel to be unreliable. Goyard also uses a remarkable policy as it makes replies to emails directly from its Paris headquarters through one of its staff members. The book consists of six meditations where Descartes writes all his beliefs, queries and concerns about the uncertain things and the things that he is sure about. In his meditations, he discussed the human nature and the human beings in depth explaining his belief that mind and body are separate and his famous cogito I think, I exist. First of all, the human nature for Descartes is composed of mind and body and how they are distinct from each other. In the Sixth mediation Concerning the Existence of Material Things and the Real distinction between Mind and Body, Descartes mentioned that the body and the soul are not alike and called his thesis mind-body dualism. The mind- Body dualism explains that the body and mind can perceive things clearly apart from each other because God creates everything distinct and independent from each other. He referred to the mind as I; therefore he reached an argument that he is a thinking thing A thing that doubts, understands, affirms, denies, is willing, is unwilling and also imagines and has sensory perceptions (Descartes). Therefore, the mind is a non-extended thing, indivisible clear and different from the body while the body is an extended, divisible and non thinking thing. The nature of a body for Descartes can understand and perceive the shape of other bodies. The essence or the nature of the mind can distinguish between the power of imagination and understating where imagination is the picturing of things and understanding is the perception of things without comprehension. The second view of Descartes was concerning the human being; he referred to the cogito I think, I exist as being the essence of the existence of a human being. Therefore, a human being exists and is capable of thinking; Descartes affirms that a human being is a substantial union , a unified entity of a body and mind where each on e of them is separate and this assumption leads to the human nature and the distinction between body and mind. He also argued that a something exists because there is something already exists and creates it; this leads to his arguments about the existence of God as being perfect who creates a human being. We, as human beings, are not infinite or perfect beings and we are susceptible of committing errors and mistakes because we dont have the unlimited ability to recognize the truth. Referring to Friedrich Nietzsche and his book twilight of the Idols, he was against the philosophy of Descartes the mind- body dualism and that the body and mind are separate and also rejected the Christianity doctrines which deny the ideology of a human being. He affirms that the mind and body are one entity and are one aspect of the nature of human beings. He mentioned that a human being can define himself by having the will to life which leads to the will to power. He described the will to power as being the driving force for achievement and leadership by the human beings in face of the miseries of human nature. The doctrines of Nietzsche regarding the will to power and the will to life contradict the doctrines of Christianity; therefore, Nietzsche was against Christianity as being an anti-life weak. Christianity teachings promote self-sacrifice, devotion and quietude which denies the values of human being and their driving force will to power. He also mentioned that human beings are having innate human natures and desire. The desires existing within us form and define the state of the human being; a reasonable, strong human being can control himself and avoid drawbacks in life and a weak human being is the one who doesnt have self-control and denies these desires or passions. Therefore, Nietzsche concludes that a human have to accommodate with his human nature and passions which eventually leads to the greatest moralities. Based on the two platonic dialogues (Apology and Phaedo), discuss the relationship of the philosopher with the polis. In addition to the political community of the City of Athens, Socrates is pointing to another community, what do you think is the significance of this Socratic gesture? The polis is the city-state of the Greek civilization; the city states in Greece were small communities and were male-dominated. The citizens of the polis were the elite groups while slaves, peasants, women and resident aliens were not part of the structure of citizens. The citizens involvement in the Polis was directed towards politics, intellectual discussions and art contributions. The Greek philosophers examined basic questions such as the nature of good and evil, the after-life, wisdom and other issues. The art of politics was closely related to the logos or logic; the polis witnessed the management of language, the excellence of speeches, the discussions of the polis issues. The relation between the philosopher and the polis was an unstable relation due to the corruption of the Greek polis and the unjust ruling of the elite groups. Plato and Aristotle were the most famous and well-known philosophers at that time and they had a great influence on the Greek polis. As we know Plat o was a student of Socrates therefore he was influenced by his teacher to the greatest extent. The affection of Socrates on Plato is clear and plain in Platos dialogues. Plato showed his interest in the polis in his book the republic by discussing the necessary fundamentals of a welfare society; the spiritual, mental and physical development of one citizen contributes to the overall benefit of one society. In The Republic, Plato discussed many topics for example justice, ethics, nature of politics and statesmanship. He also critiqued the existing status of the polis, its institutions and its political order. For Plato, the polis is ruled by self-interest rulers (elite groups) who are seeking lust in power and strength, thus the polis is disordered community ruled by self-interest rulers who claim possessing the knowledge but in fact they are ignorant, unwise and do not how to rule or govern the citys affairs because they are driven by their desires and appetites for power. Referring to Socrates trial, Plato condemned the rulers of the polis and so called the Athenian democracy upon the death of Socrates. Aristotle in his famous book Politics expressed his views concerning the Polis or the Greek community. He classified the government as being: monarchy or tyranny, aristocracy or oligarchy, law abiding or lawless democracy. Aristotle also explained the prevailing problems in the polis concerning the poverty and slavery; he saw that the best performing polis is the city that combines between democracy, legitimacy and just rules. Obviously, the Greek polis at that time was lacking the three components of Aristotles beliefs about a welfare and prosperous polis. Aside from Plato and Aristotle, the sophists were part of the Greek community; they were responsible of teaching the Athenians sons for a free. They were excellent in rhetoric and speech skills; they possessed the art of public speaking and the persuasion skills too; the least the sophists cared about was t he truth. In Platos dialogues, Socrates addressed the Men of Athens as a corrupt community who are ignorant and do not know how to govern the city justly under fair rules. The community which Socrates is part of was corrupt, condemning him to a death sentence because of allegations made by Meletus and his followers. Socrates was accused falsely as being a bad teacher who is poising the youths minds and not believing in the god and goddesses of Athens. For Socrates, the Athenian Community was a lawless community controlled by judges who dont apply the law that they sworn to do. He also pointed to another community which evokes inquires and questions of Socrates along the two dialogues; it was the community where Socrates can find justice, tranquility and fairness with dead true judges. He described them in his queries about the after-life; Socrates said in his trial that he is not afraid of death. He described death an easy and a blessing thing from God; he also was conceived that a good man cannot be harmed in life or death and his good deeds and affairs will save him in the afterlife. He also believed that he will be moved to a peaceful place where he will be re-united with the dead community who has good deeds too in heaven. He was content that he will be in the companion of famous and wise heroes like Orpheus and Musaeus, Hesiod and Homer and will continue practicing his philosophy with them. Finally, I think that the significance of the Socratic gesture about the dead community is his way of trying to glorify the concept of death as being a benevolent and peaceful thing not a tragedy or fearful as the living community think who lamented on his death sentence and his separation from the living world. He also tries to picture that the other place in after life is a perfect place where he will be meet honest women and men which is totally opposite to the Greek community as being corrupt and unlawful at that time.
